<image:caption>“Well informed stakeholders make well informed decisions.” Through a chance meeting on a UNEP project in Kodaikanal India, Nobel Prize winning economist Amartya Sen shaped my thinking on equitable development and conscious capitalism. His book The Idea of Justice changed the way I designed Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environment, Society and Governance (ESG) programs and stakeholder communication. The idea of building stakeholder communities within organizations became my first principles design.</image:caption>

<image:caption>“We are not whole until we are all whole.” It remains a mystery to me how I became aware of this manifesto by Jesuit priest Greg Boyle, Founder of Homeboy Industries. I had to special order it when it was released in 2010. I read it rumbling across Tamil Nadu and arrived at my destination (on the margins of the margins) I was completely transformed. I can directly attribute Fr Greg’s thoughts about the margins, the power of kinship & peer communities as the mindset that led to our first technology iteration that brought powerful mentorship to the margins. The outcome transformed them, and me. Now on his fourth book, Fr Boyle continues to form my heart and mind on the power of dignity as a transformative tool that can erase margins.</image:caption>

<image:caption>“That land is a community is the basic concept of ecology, but that land is to be respected and loved is an extension of ethics.” My realization that my mentor, NS Adkoli in Bangalore was the Aldo Leopold of India is something I will cherish as long as I live. With Fr. Boyle’s encouragement to “draw a bigger circle around the word ‘family’, I learned to include the environment in our thinking. A beautiful regenerative cycle that only God could create. The Land Ethic was Aldo’s last and unfinished work is worth a read and should be required reading in B-School, Law School and CEO’s. Work Your Values owes a debt of gratitude to these maverick thinkers - Aldo and NS - for the clarity of a more prosperous way to prosper where all stakeholders win, even the land.</image:caption>

<image:caption>“Poverty is partly a result of (natural) assets not being valued…and fairly traded. We (instead) follow… a double bottom line approach - we will work for a social mission - that will be equally important as our profits.” Returning from the margins to New Delhi, I became in demand for building community tech-enabled workforce communities. My dear friend Ravi at UN Habitat introduced me to American-Indian business man William Bissell whose father was a buyer for Macy’s who discovered a new compassionate and dignified way of doing business in a textile industry that had followed a colonial model for centuries. This remarkable book, supported by the evidence of the world’s largest cooperative. A interdependent craft-community-to-market model that moved the margins can be eliminated completely in favor a socio-emotional and economic platform that there was “No daylight to separate us. Only kinship. Inching ourselves closer to creating a community of kinship such that God might recognize.”- Greg Boyle. Mirroring Dr Sen and Leopold’s thoughts on “the next enlightenment” of ethics, II had come full circle. HeroBridge was born from these principles, and anchored for a passion for human-centered tec</image:caption>

She also formed a vision for the future of work and education based on human relationship aided by technology. As a lawyer, Deborah brings to Hero Bridge the executive know-how required to keep Hero Bridge a vibrant and successful organization. Her deep faith, leadership and vision of the future of work in America is the company’s north star. <image:title>Our Team - Frank Connelly, Co-Founder CTO</image:title>
<image:caption>Frank is a former corporate communications lawyer and expert at internal and external stakeholder communications. Early in his career, while in India, he determined oversea business could benefit from investment in mentorship programs that blended vocation and socio emotional support as a means achieving sustainable productivity and workforce development. In 2009, with three engineers from India Institute of Technology (IIT) he developed a simple IOT SMS technology that provided 24/7 access to resource-building and economic support for rural farmers. HeroBridge was born from this project and has improved over the years as a human-centered digital media technology that now represents the human-centered future of work. Over the next decade, Frank became a driver and thought-leader of transformational change with the aim of heathy and productive healthy business cultures. As a communicator, Frank perfected the craft of stakeholder communications (ie. “storytelling”) where he remains at the cutting edge Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs and the partnerships. This includes working with Al Roker Entertainment and IMDb executive producer credits for award winning Social Impact Entertainment (SIE) to amplify these programs and partnerships. As a writer, speaker, moderator and advisor, Frank uses story and media as powerful change agents for HeroBridge as a company, and its clients. Frank also sits on the Faith Coalition Board of Directors ( and swings a hammer for) Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, focusing on fundraising; and is a Board of Directors Member for the Social Impact Entertainment Society, and is head of CSR for the Society. Frank holds a Juris Doctor degree from Northern University, as well as two bachelors in Behavioral Psychology and Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Vision - Relationship.</image:title>
<image:caption>The product of a years long research project including technical grants from the National Mentor Resource Center, Hero Bridge set out to determine how technology could bridge the divide of support and resources that cause certain populations to suffer poor outcomes. Having lived in one of the most densely populated and resource starved countries in the world, India, for six years, Frank and Deborah Connelly found it incredible that in the resource abundant United States (and in particular Los Angeles) so many could be so disconnected from the basic support and services key to a prosperous life. The problem they concluded was ‘relationship poverty.’ The lack of a reliable social support system that could provide mentorship, direction and access to the services, benefits and learning tracks to keep the underserved and vulnerable populations on a sustainable track. Without these, underserved populations would inevitably end up suffering the outcomes of drug addiction, mental disorder, trafficking, unplanned pregnancy, gangs, incarceration and homeless. These findings were the core of the Hero Bridge mission. Our solution uses the same technology that we all hold in our hand everyday - a smartphone- as the bridge to a trusted online-offline supportive community. Familiar and elegant, the Hero Bridge app solves three fundamental weaknesses of the current social system: An investment in community technology that bridges the divide to relationship and resources. Through an online community users from underserved communities are welcomed and seamlessly gain immediate companionship, awareness and access to supportive organizations all over LA. Hero Bridge’s research found that unlike businesses, CBO’s set aside a very small portion of their budgets for marketing and media. CBO’s focus all their funding on their programs which assures quality of program but weak access to the populations they seek to serve and donation to support the program. Hero Bridge changes this by aggregating the target population into a safe private online environment where CBO’s can be found and the provides access to these services facilitated as easily as one uses Google Maps to make a reservation and reach their favorite restaurant. In app media is curated and aligned with the needs of the user and supported by cause brands whose expertise is available 24/7 to those who need it the most. Mentor optimized by design. Nothing connects mentors and mentees like Hero Bridge and staying in touch has proven to be literally life altering. At Hero Bridge we believe that companionship and kinship of a caring society is a fundamental human right. No one should ever be alone. No one. Ever. Therefore, Hero Bridge is a community designed to support both the underserved population but also the mentors who serve them. It has been shown by NMRC that well equipped mentors stay in their roles longer, and mentor relationships lasting longer than six months enjoy better long term outcomes. Data for Better Outcomes. Case workers and CBO’s operate in silos and lack the data integration and management necessary to determine what’s working and what is not. Instead of relying on anecdotal metrics of success, the Hero Bridge app when coupled with data management API becomes a powerful tool that collects the data of paths to success. Similar to the metrics used by social media to determine what content a user would likely enjoy, Hero Bridge uses data to develop special learning tracks and recommended goals that the user and his or her mentor Key data point collection can monitor and measure foster/mentor/activity performance and create predictive models for successful outcomes. Our vision is to be limitless in expandability: Made in LA. Built for the world. Hero Bridge leveraged LA’s two powerhouse digital industries - entertainment and media technology. Our mission was simple: use existing 21st century tools (the ubiquitous smartphone) to reform the way foster youth and mentors access resources that provide on-demand online and offline learning tracks, tools, enrichment activities and the healthy socialization that is a fundamental human right and key to success in adulthood. Built with the end in mind. LA is abundant with foster youth service programs, each disconnected, well informed and operating in their own silo. however, not a single organization was using available technology as a bridge to efficiently amplify all programs, mentors and services into one powerful network ecosystem built around the youth. This simple and sustainable app is supported by an inspirational and educational digital media exchange, funded by CSR and putting the power of reaching goals where it belongs - in the hands of the youth. The ability to curate one’s own course, within a secure, supportive and nurturing network has enabled youth and their mentors to experience teachable moments together and liberate them from the detached and depressed living situations that lead to bad outcomes. — Frank and Deborah Connelly, Co-founders and Co-executive Directors, Hero Bridge</image:caption>
